Yes, this is real silk: both layers are 100% mulberry silk at 22 momme, inside and out. It is a half-face covering with a hidden triangular opening at the nose bridge, sold in multi packs, one size for most adults.

What makes it different

  • An opening at the nose, not a seal: a small triangular vent sits tucked into the nose bridge so air moves through instead of collecting inside. This is the whole reason the mask exists.

  • 22 momme mulberry silk, both layers: 22 momme is a dense weave. The surface is very smooth, so it slides against skin instead of catching, and it stays cool to the touch.

  • 3D shaped panel: the front is cut with a curve rather than sewn flat, so the fabric holds itself off the lips instead of pressing against them.

  • Adjustable ear loops, and almost no weight: each loop carries an adjuster, so you can shorten or loosen it until nothing digs in behind the ears. A single mask weighs about 0.4 oz.

  • Two tones, worn one way: every mask carries one colour on the outside and a contrasting lighter lining behind it, so the edge shows a soft line of the second shade. It has a set outer face and is not made to be turned inside out.

Where it earns its place

The commute with the sun coming through the windscreen. A walk at the brightest part of the afternoon. An hour in the garden, a long flight, an errand you would rather do with your face covered. It is an accessory rather than equipment, and it is cut to be worn for hours without being noticed.

Silk against the skin

The reason to choose silk over cotton or synthetic here is friction. A 22 momme weave has a very smooth surface, so the fabric moves over the skin rather than dragging on it.
