Print on a ground that still shows. Both of these are printed onto woven flax rather than woven in, and the ground is left undyed — so the beige of the fiber reads through between the marks instead of disappearing behind them.

• POLKA DOT: Small black dots printed over undyed flax. 190 x 65 cm (74.8" x 25.6") through the panel, plus roughly 9 cm (3.5") of softly frayed edge at each end.

• INK FLORAL: Small charcoal blossoms printed on a 50s count yarn — a finer and softer hanging cloth than the heavier weaves. 180 x 60 cm (70.9" x 23.6") through the panel, plus roughly 9 cm (3.5") of fringe at each end.

• PURE LINEN, MINIMALLY PROCESSED: Woven from flax and finished without heavy processing. New linen is crisp rather than soft; it is not intended to feel like brushed cotton, and it relaxes noticeably after the first few gentle washes.

• HOW TO KEEP IT: Hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent. No bleach, no wringing. Press the water out with a towel and dry flat in the shade, away from tumble dryers and direct heat.

The beauty of linen, and what to expect

Tone, slub and print density shift a little between production runs. Neutral shades read differently in daylight, indoor light and on a screen. A little loose fiber in the first weeks is normal and settles down.
